BRENHAM ART STUDENTS TALK WITH MURAL ARTISTS DOWNTOWN

Mural artist Helena Martin talks with students Friday morning about her work.

Art students from Brenham Junior High and High School were downtown Friday morning to observe and ask questions of the two mural artists who will be painting new murals.  The students will also be touring the backlot gallery and talking with artists there.  The students will also be working on their own murals at the Brenham Bus Depot Museum. It is all part of the Texas Arts and Music Festival taking place this weekend.  Starting on Friday and running through Sunday, festival goers will be able to enjoy music from talented musicians, live mural artists, art vendors and exhibits, and food trucks.  The festival is free and open to the public.

The entertainment lineup showcases bands from across the state, including a downtown dance party Friday night at 7 p.m. with the Shekere Band.  The Brenham Children’s Chorus will kick off Main Stage performances on Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by the Blue Grooves, Jomo and the Possum Posse, Sour Bridges, and Chandler and the Bings.  Headlining Saturday night at 9 p.m. will be Jody Booth and his Rather Large Honky Tonk Band.  Sunday will feature the Brown Sugar Band at 11 a.m.

The Festival will be taking place in and around the Commerce Street area, between Baylor and Park Streets.

Brenham art student Julian Arguello works on the mural at the Brenham Bus Depot Museum Friday morning. The students are painting a mural on the side of a storage container as part of the Texas Arts and Music Festival.
