BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL APPROVES HOUSING REHAB BONDS

The Brenham City Council approved a resolution that allows a public housing entity to issue $6 million in tax-exempt bonds during their meeting today (Thursday).

Brenham Housing Authority will use the bonds to help finance its Northview Village Apartments rehabilitation project, which includes 66 units. Rick Flammer, a chairman on the Brenham Housing Authority board, says they are hoping to close the deal next week and will start construction on the project in February. Flammer estimates the project will take a year to complete.

In other business, the city council approved the Brenham Police Department to submit a grant application to the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s Office. The non-match grant would help with costs for converting to the national incident-based reporting system. The Texas Legislature has mandated that all agencies move from summary reporting to incident based reporting by January 1, 2019.

The council also approved two contracts concerning the upcoming city council election on May 6th. The council approved a contract between the city and Washington County, which outlines what the city and/or the county is responsible for during the election process. The council also approved an inter-local agreement between the city of Brenham, Brenham ISD, and Blinn College. The joint election agreement addresses various issues related to the election and outlines what each entity will be responsible for during the election process.

The council also approved the purchase of a discharge spreader truck for the city’s wastewater treatment plant. The lowest bid came from Herrmann International for $166,400.
