BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL MEETS IN REGULAR SESSION

The Brenham City Council met in its regular session today to discuss its agenda, one of the major ones concerning the future expansion, renovation, and modernization of the Nancy Carol Roberts Library.

In the Council’s Work Session, there was discussion and an update on the accomplishments and display of the architectural rendition of what is to be the final look of the library, and an outlook on the cost. City Administrative Service Manager Wendy Ragonis updated the council on the library’s progress and announced that the city had secured the determined construction costs of $3 million, split equally between the city and private funds. The project is expected to go out for bidding in January or February of 2015.

Also discussed was an update and discussion of the future Brenham Pet Adoption and Animal Care Facility. The amount of the project is projected to be $1,995,00. The amount already secured, including private donations, is $1,887.552.82, leaving the amount to be raised at approximately $110,000.

And also discussed was the possible placement of stop signs along S. Day Street at its intersection with College Avenue and Charles Lewis Street. Representatives from St. Paul’s Christian Day School were present in the meeting.

One issue of contention was the discussion of an ordinance authorizing a variance to minimum setback requirements as outlined in Chapter 14, Mobile Homes. Manufactured Homes, and Manufactured Home Parks of the City of Brenham’s Code of Ordinances.  Danny Goss voiced his opposition and voted against it, citing previous discussions and wondering why the request for a variance was wanted at this stage. The variance was also voted against by Weldon Williams.

Also approved was the appointment of Kacey Weiss as Deputy City Secretary.

Another discussion on the agenda was the approval to repeal Resolution No. R-14-018 Relating to the Adoption of a Commercial Tax Phase-in Agreement with Independence Coffee. The Resolution was approved to be repealed.

Service Recognitions were given to the following City of Brenham employees:

Christy Korth, Finance – 5 years of service

Eddie Ocanas, Police Department – 10 years of service

Kim Mueller, Maintenance Department – 15 years of service

Susan K. Nienstedt, Human Resources, 15 years of service
