BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS TAX RATE, THURSDAY

The Brenham City Council will consider setting a tax rate when they meet Thursday afternoon.

City officials are proposing a nearly two-cent drop in the tax rate—to 47.31 cents per hundred-dollars valuation.  That is 1.81 cents lower than the current rate.

However, due to an increase in the tax rolls of nearly 86-and-a-half million dollars, the lower rate will still generate more revenue.

Two public hearings have been scheduled—August 27th and September 3rd.

Also at Thursday’s meeting, the council is expected to approve applying for the Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative

The council will also discuss applying for two Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative community grants.  Those grants would help pay for construction for the new animal shelter and for the renovation project at the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library.

The council is also expected to discuss the proposed budget for the Washington County Appraisal District; formally accept the Texas Department of Transportation Selected Traffic Enforcement Program grant for the police department; and approve a stop sign on Bruce Street at the intersection with Ledbetter Lane.

The Brenham City Council meets Thursday at 1 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall on West Vulcan.
