BRENHAM POLICE CHIEF FINALIST MAY BE ANNOUNCED NEXT WEEK

Story Updated 2:15 PM Tuesday, April 17th.

The finalist for the Brenham Police Chief’s position may be announced next week. Brenham City Manager James Fisher said that the city has tendered an offer for the Police Chief’s position, but that they are still working through the background checks and psychological tests on the applicant. He said that if everything checks out, the city may announce their finalist next week and it would go before City Council on May 3rd for their approval.

The Brenham City Council will hold an Executive Session this Thursday to review the performance of James Fisher. Fisher says he requested the 90 day review by the council to make sure they were on the same page and were moving in the same direction. Fisher took over as Brenham’s City Manager in January, replacing Terry Roberts, who retired after 17 years with the city.

Also on Thursday’s agenda, council will hear an update on a proposed Bluebonnet Haven Residential Treatment Facility near Brenham. Councilmembers are expected to get an update on the facility and its potential impact on the Brenham Independent School District.

Councilmembers will also consider adopting a Commercial Tax Phase-In for Country Boys Sausage in their expanded facility in the Southwest Industrial Park. They are also expected to issue a letter of interest to the TxDOT Aviation Division for funding a Capital Improvement Program at the Brenham Airport.

Brenham City Council meets Thursday at 1:00 PM at City Hall.

  1. Seems like they are evaluating the new City Manager at a very early point in his tenure, he has not been here long enough to form much of a basis for evaluation? I would be interested in hearing why they are doing this at this time. Surely we are not already talking about a raise and hopefully he has not done anything to cause concern.

    1. Geez. Here let me help you since you clearly didn’t read the whole article:

Second paragraph, second sentence. “Fisher says he requested the 90 day review by the council to make sure they were on the same page and were moving in the same direction.”

Why does everyone immediately jump to something nefarious?

    2. The above article, second paragraph, “Fisher says he requested the 90 day review by the council to make sure they were on the same page and were moving in the same direction.”

    3. The last few jobs I’ve enjoyed have all featured 3 month ‘probationary periods.’ A 90 day review is not exactly unheard of.
