BRENHAM I.S.D. OFFICIALS REACT TO SANTA FE SCHOOL SHOOTINGS

Brenham ISD officials say they are aware of the situation at Santa Fe High School this morning.

Although there is no immediate threat to the schools in Brenham, authorities say they want local parents and the community to know that the security of the campuses and the safety of students is their number one priority.

School officials remind the public that staff members are trained for emergency situations, and work closely with the highly trained officers of the Brenham Police Department.

Officials are assuring parents and community that they take every act of violence very seriously, and will continue to do everything in their power to maintain a safe learning environment for students and staff.

  1. I was teachers aide at Kause Elementary, A couple of years ago, we had a student who actually brought a gun to school in his backpack. It was discovered and reported to the principal, the boy was suspended for a few days but was then allowed back into the class. It made me feel really unsafe that they would allow a kid back into class after he brought a gun to school. It is just scary. I keep thinking that at some point the administration is going to wise up, I am still waiting.

    1. OMG, I knew they were pretty relaxed there when it came to discipline but this is crazy! I think the school should have to publically account for this. What kind of gun was it, how old was the boy, did he make any threats, etc. How come we were never notified that this happened?

  2. Back in mid-April this year, a boy in my son’s 3rd grade class at Krause Elementary threatened to bring his BB gun to school and shoot my son and his friends. Thier teacher reported it to the front office and they did NOTHING. The student was never taken out of class, never disciplined, and has remained a problem in the classroom. How can this happen in Brenham?

  3. They need to work on bullying as well as the students entering and leaving as they please, when I went to BHS we didn’t get to do as much as they are doing now. They also need to work on getting clear backpacks are something to know what the kids are bringing into the schools cause it’s too much going on at the BJHS and BHS schools and the parents don’t seem to care or be bothered some of these kids are raising theirselves. The young girls at BHS are wearing things inappropriate and the school acts as if they don’t care. I come to the school I see girls with crop tops showing belly and belly rings, I see short sweat shorts in the morning almost showing their behind. There are kids all over the build either smoking or drinking somewhere around the school, teachers and principles need to pay more attention to their schools then their pocket book, now when I went to this same school that is letting all this go on the teachers or principals made sure the girls skirts and dresses were at our finger tips or longer smh now they don’t care. We had strick rules and all kinds of stuff these teachers and principles and schools just don’t care anymore and these kids are out of control. That’s why all this stuff is happening now. Wake up Brenham and let’s get these kids back under control.

  4. Please just start with putting in metal detectors!!! We can have a fundraiser if we need to, I’d be willing to give for each campus and I no longer have any children even attending.

  5. Thank you Shepherd for seeing thru meaningless rhetoric and stating common sense solutions. Facts are, all these suggestions cost money our school district does not have. Raise taxes? Maybe, but most of the burden falls on the poorest because they don’t have the big property tax exemptions. This is a statewide problem, and it calls for state funded solutions. Think you will get it from the current party in power? Think again. Until voters in this state realize the fact our state leaders have failed and we can’t keep re electing the same mindsets over and over and get better results. In the meantime, let’s throw more thoughts and prayers at the parents in Santa Fe making funeral arrangements for their children.

  6. When is the next board meeting? I would like to hear what they are doing and planning to improve the schools safety.

    1. Did you attend the last three board meetings? School safety was discussed at each of them? It’s easy to be a coward and reply on social media, but more difficult to meet face to face and support school officials. Instead of trying to work against the district, why don’t you try to work with them?

How would you feel if a local citizen was patrolling the campus and accidentally shot your child? What now? Are you going to blame the school? Or are you going to blame John Dees? Hotdiggitydog! What now? A child has died because a citizen was trying to help protect the school has now become the issue!

If you have guns at home, are you and every parent locking them up? Are you parenting? This is a society issue! Instead of having citizens carrying guns on campus, why don’t these men become mentors and truly try to MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR CHILDRENS LIVES!

      1. No I did not attend the last three school board meeting. I was actually working my butt off, as usual, just trying to pay my ever increasing property tax, where evidently, the school district cannot manage their budget.

  7. I am a lifetime member of the NRA and have had a license to carry in the State of Texas for over a decade. The two most important people in my life attend BISD schools. I do not support “Angel Guardians” on any BISD campus. There appear to be a couple of individuals that would like to bully their plan into implementation. Sounds like it might even help their business in the process. More secure campuses and additional protection by uniformed law enforcement officers are among the right answers. When it comes to handguns around my children, I prefer them to be carried by uniformed law enforcement officers who have dedicated their lives to protecting the public.

  8. And yet BISD still relies on part time officers at most of the schools. They are maybe there less than half the time, instead of adopting the Angel Guardians Plan as 174 other school districts in Texas already have done.

    1. Thank you John Deans for continued support in trying to make BISD school district safe!

We do have a lot of students roaming the halls and leaving the school for lunch and returning to clas and who knows where they really went or what they are doing! BISD needs to have a full time monitor inside and outside observing any suspicious activity that can easily be reported to an official staff or officer on duty. It’s only 8 to 9 hours of pay that could save one life!
Let’s see if these requests get any response from BISD which I highly doubt!

    2. Thank you John Deans! Many of us support your efforts to improve BISD. Please keep trying to convince the trustees. We can also later use the ballot box to try and change the school board if we continue to be ridiculed.

    3. Yes John Deans we agree with you! This school board should listen or the voters will make them listen in the next time they are running for re-election!!!

  9. I sincerely hope that the district is not referring to the laughable homemade video employees and staff watched earlier this year on active shooters as ‘training’. Come on John Deans, please continue to try to get through to the thick heads on the school board and in central office! We need to be proactive in protecting our schools. Restricting the number of entrances at each campus and installing metal detectors at every entrance would be a good start. Exits could still be used, just keep the doors locked from the outside. Place one of the many administrative staff members there to monitor the entrance. Do not let students in and out of the buildings to roam the parking lot. These are just a few adjustments that should be made and ENFORCED. Anyone who goes to BHS during the day can see for themselves all the milling around.

    1. Well said Sheep Dog! I agree 100% as both of my teenagers attend school in Brenham. They can work on the bullying at the school as well.
