National Athletic Training Month is celebrated every March in order to spread awareness about the work of athletic trainers.  In recognition, Brenham ISD calls attention to the care its trainers provide to student athletes.

Trainers do more than just taping and ice; they coordinate and execute injury prevention programs, prepare athletes for practices and games, and execute emergency action plans when necessary.

Head Athletic Trainer Jamie Woodall said the prevention of and care for injuries is “the core of athletic training”.  She said it also gives the opportunity to make an impact on the students trainers work with.

Brenham High School also offers an Athletic Training Student Aide Program, which currently has eight participants.  The program gives students the chance to learn about and participate in reducing the risk of illness and injury in sports.

Brenham High School student Brianna Hill, one of the program’s participants, said the program has helped prepare her for the next level, and get connected with other athletic trainers and colleges.
