BRENHAM ISD FOOD SERVICE STAFF MEMBER TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

Brenham ISD officials have announced a food service staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.

The district in a release Monday said the employee most recently worked at Brenham High School on May 12th and May 13th, but was not involved in distributing boxed meals.

All members of the food service team who worked with the employee are now quarantining for the next 14 days, and the food preparation area at the high school is being cleaned and sanitized.  Meal distribution will continue at the school with a new preparation and distribution team.

The district said all items included in the boxed meals are pre-packaged, the food preparation area is sanitized after each use, and staff members wear gloves and masks and follow social distancing protocols while preparing meals.

Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson said the Brenham ISD child nutrition department has been “on the frontlines throughout this pandemic”.  He said the district cannot thank these staff members enough for the work they do, which allows the district to “continue to deliver a critical service to our students during this uncertain time”.

The district will continue distributing boxed meals each Wednesday as part of the summer feeding program.  Distribution will continue at Brenham High School from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with a final distribution on Wednesday, June 24th.
