BRENHAM ISD RECEIVES PERFECT SCORE FROM STATE FINANCE SYSTEM

The Brenham school district has earned a perfect score and a Superior rating for the 2017 fiscal year.

The Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) issued Brenham ISD the perfect score, along with a rating of an A. The school also received a perfect score last year.  This system is designed to encourage Texas public schools to better manage their financial resources to provide the maximum distribution possible for instructional purposes.

Finance Director Kim Weatherby said the school takes financial integrity and responsibility very seriously, and that it is a “top priority” of the Brenham board of trustees and district administrators to be responsible with local, state and federal funds.

FIRST ratings are based on fifteen financial indicators.  These include administrative cost expenditures, the accuracy of a district’s financial information, and any financial vulnerabilities as determined by an external auditor. Brenham ISD received a perfect score on all fifteen indicators.

Brenham ISD Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson said that he was thrilled to earn the high marks again, and maintained he wants to send a positive message to taxpayers.  He says the school “will continue to operate with the highest of financial standards, ethics, and integrity.”

  1. This should not be a huge challenge, with as much money as this district takes from us with their high taxes, perfect financial accountability should not be hard. Notice there was nothing in the article about dollars being spent in the classroom versus all the administrative and “support” staff sprinkled all over the district. Press releases like the one issued by BISD do nothing more than enforce the belief that they have to much money to play with, money they are taking from us. I am waiting for the next GIANT raise for superintendent.
