The first day of school has begun for the oldest school district in the state of Texas.
Classes are underway for thousands of students in Brenham ISD, across its elementary, middle and high school campuses.
The start of school acts as a way to reunite old friends and bring together new ones. One familiar face coming back this year is Brenham Elementary Principal Kimberly Rocka, who is returning after seven years away from the school district.
The new school year also allows students to use new facilities and take part in new activities. Brenham Middle School Principal Peggy Still, who is in her 9th year as principal, says middle school students this year can look forward to a unique, yearlong activity.
Brenham High School Principal Joseph Chandler, coming into his 4th year as principal, says the early days of school can be nerve-wracking. That’s why he says building relationships with others is very important.
Brenham ISD’s theme for this school year is “Great Things Happen Here”. Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson will be KWHI’s first guest on the “BISD ROUNDTABLE” tomorrow (Thursday) morning, on AM 1280, FM 101.7, and kwhi.com.
