BRENHAM ISD STUDENTS, STAFF SPEND TUESDAY “HORSING AROUND”

Brenham ISD special education students and staff were able to “horse around” at Silver Lining Therapy, LLC on Tuesday.

Students were treated to a unique experience involving horses, a donkey and even a visit from the house cat.  Students performed tasks such as learning how to approach a horse, the different body parts of a horse, and how they compare to people.

Students were able to handle the horses by leading them, playing games like "red light, green light" while leading and stopping the horse, a match game, and even leading the horses through an arena-like area with barrels set in a barrel racing pattern. Along with the handling of the horses, students were able to get up close and personal with the horses by learning their names, giving commands to the horses, and also grooming the horses.

Students were able to practice learning their letters and numbers, along with following directions and expanding their attention span during the activities.  After spending the morning working with the horses and practicing various movements and skills, the students were treated to a picnic lunch in the barn.

Silver Lining Therapy is owned and operated by Karen M. Gardner, OTR, Hippotherapy Clinical Specialist, and is located in Brenham.
