Just before 8:30, Brenham Police officer Kevin Mertz was patrolling in the 1300 block of Prairie Lea Street when he saw a vehicle leave a parking lot and head towards Fifth Street at a high rate of speed.

Mertz said he finally caught up with the vehicle near the intersection of W. Fifth and Jackson streets.

He says the car finally stopped at the intersection of South Jackson and College Avenue.

The driver, identified as 22-year old Crispin Contee admitted he was driving without a license. He also gave Mertz permission to search his vehicle.

Contee also admitted he had been stopped twice for no drivers’ license.

Mertz says he told Contee he was going to be arrested for driving without a license and Contee began fighting with Mertz and other officers who had arrived on the scene.

After Contee was eventually subdued, Mertz searched him and found a baggie with two pills, later identified as ecstasy.

Contee is charged with possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone; resisting arrest; and, no Drivers License.
