BRENHAM PARKS AND REC. BOARD TO HOLD WORKSHOPS WEDNESDAY

Brenham’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will hold a pair of workshops at tomorrow’s (Wednesday) meeting.

In work session, the board will receive presentations and discuss the use of alcohol and tobacco in city parks.  Current park ordinance does not have any regulations on tobacco, and has minimal regulation against alcohol, prohibiting glass bottles.

Community Services Specialist Crystal Locke said staff will not immediately bring a recommendation forward, but they will look at several ideas for discussion.  She said the board has looked at other city ordinances, and how they handle alcohol and tobacco in their parks.

In regular session, the board will look to act upon recommended changes to 2019’s parks and recreation fee schedule.

Locke stated that initial fees for kitchen and field rental were set in 2008, and many have not been updated since then.  Staff are recommending increases for facility and field rental fees.  She said the Blue Bell Aquatic Center would not be affected by the increase.

In a second workshop, the board will discuss various 2018 sports tournaments held in city parks. The board will also set its meeting dates for 2019, and hear several staff updates.

The board will meet tomorrow at noon, in the second floor conference room of City Hall.
