BRENHAM POLICE DEPT. TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR NEXT CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY

The Brenham Police Department is accepting applications for its annual Citizens Police Academy.

The educational program allows citizens to see inside the world of law enforcement and what is involved with officers’ daily duties.  Tours, lectures, demonstrations, and “hands-on” experiences are used to help class participants gain insight into the inner workings of the Brenham Police Department.

Topics covered include patrol procedures, criminal investigations, S.W.A.T., hostage negotiation, building search, traffic stops, narcotics, and DWI enforcement.  Citizens in the program can also ride with officers during their patrol shifts.

This year’s academy begins on February 13th.  Classes take place every Thursday night from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Brenham Police Department, excluding the week of Spring Break.  The academy ends with a graduation ceremony on May 8th.

Classes are free of charge, and are available to all Washington County residents age 18 or older.  There are no height or weight requirements, and no physical agility tests to pass.

Applications are available at the police department, and online at www.cityofbrenham.org under the Community Programs tab of the police department’s page.  Anyone with questions can contact Sergeant Todd Ashorn at 979-337-7382.
