BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES LED LIGHTING PROJECT

The Brenham School Board approved a $1.5 million project during their meeting Monday evening to replace all of the lighting in the district’s schools with LED lights.  E3 Lighting has been working with the district to secure a low interest loan from the state Energy Conservation Office for the project.  The LED lighting is expected to save the district $180,000 per year in electricity, and that will be applied to paying off the loan over a 10 year period.  The project is expected to take 7 months to complete with all of the work being done outside of school hours.

In other action, the board approved the final payment to the Crain Group for the renovations at Krause Elementary School.  Even with a number of changes and an unexpected sewer line replacement, the project still came in $437,000 under budget.  Trustees also approved renewing the annual property, liability, and auto insurance policy with the Texas Association of School Boards.  The policy saw a 12 percent increase this year with the deductible also going up, but it was much lower than the only other bid that was received of almost $130,000 more.

The School Board presented two “You Make a Difference” awards during the meeting.  The Champion Drive Planning Committee was presented with the award for their efforts in putting on the Champion Drive for special needs kids during the County Fair.

The award was also presented to Anuar and Jennifer Maycotte, owners of Trunks and Twigs Reclaimed Wood Home Furnishings for their efforts in furnishing the new F.A.M.E. Café at the Brenham Community Education Building.

The board also accepted several monetary donations.  The Brenham Education Foundation presented a check for almost $53,000 to the board to be used as mini-grants on the various campuses.  They also accepted a $5,000 donation from the Softball Alumni Association and an anonymous donation of $18,000.  Both of those donations will go towards the new press box at Alumni Field which is expected to be completed by the start of the season.
