BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD HEARS UPDATES ON SUMMER SCHOOL

Brenham School Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson attended his last Brenham School Board meeting at noon today (Monday).  Dr. Jackson is leaving to become the new superintendent in La Porte ISD.  In today’s (Monday’s) meeting, Jackson commended the students for their resolve in moving forward in these difficult times.

Brenham Athletic Director Eliot Allen updated the board on the policies that will be in place for the summer strength and conditioning camps that begin next week at the High School.

Allen also empasized that the indoor equipment will be cleaned between each workout to comply with TEA and UIL guidelines.

Summer School will also be beginning next week.  Director of Special Programs & Advanced Academics Lori Wamble said that Brenham High School students that are required to take summer school will be given the option of taking classes in person or on line.  All other campuses will only have on line classes.  Students at the High School will be limited to only 10 persons per classroom.

Director of Business & Finance Kim Weatherby presented the board with an update on the budget for next year.  She said she is budgeting for a 2 percent drop in revenue compared to this year.  The district will also be receiving a $785,000 grant as part of the CARES act.  Weatherby said the big question is whether it is a supplement or replacement:

In other action, the board approved the bid from Brenham Custom Floors for new carpet in the High School auditorium.  They also approved a waiver from TEA to do the inventory of school textbooks in the fall instead of now.
