BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD SET TO DISCUSS EMPLOYEE RAISES

Pay raises and other benefits for the upcoming 2014-15 school year will be discussed when the Brenham School Board meets Monday at the High School.

The trustees and school administrators have been discussing a number of ways to increase wages and benefits.

District officials say if a 2.5-percent wage hike were granted, the budget would run at deficit of nearly 950-thouand dollars.

The upcoming budget is expected to feature a 70-thousand dollar increase in transportation costs, and a utility cost increase of 50-thousand dollars.

School officials say one possible option would be to move one-cent of the property-tax rate from the bond indebtedness to maintenance and operations.

Also on the agenda for tonight’s meeting is another update on the progress of the two major construction projects: the new Alton Elementary School and the renovations to the Brenham Middle School.

Administration officials have assured the board that both projects will be completed in time for the start of classes in late August.

The Brenham School board meets at 6 p.m. Monday at Brenham High School in rooms 111 and 113.
