A Bryan Police Department Assistant Chief has been arrested and charged with assault.

Assistant Chief Wayland Rawls has been charged after police announced back on February 8th that a “member of their command staff” had been placed on leave during a Texas Rangers investigation into an incident on West 26th Street.

Rawls has been on administrative leave since the incident.  He will remain on leave until the conclusion of the investigation by the department’s Internal Investigation Division.

The assault charge against Rawls is a Class A Misdemeanor.
