BRYAN MAN SAVES DROWNING CHILD’S LIFE

  

A Bryan soldier is being hailed a hero after saving the life of a 9-year old drowning boy.Oak_Creek_Entrance

The boy is recovering at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, 21-year old Ft. Hood soldier Cody Schaffner pulled the child from a swimming pool and administering CPR.

Bryan police said young four boys were playing at the pool inside the Oak Creek condominium complex without their parents' permission around 7:30 Saturday night.

A 10-year-old discovered the boy at the bottom of the pool and went door-to-door to find help, police said. He knocked on the door of Schaffner, who jumped into the pool and pulled the boy from the water.

Schaffner administered CPR until emergency crews arrived, and he said the boy had started to blink and breathe.

The boy was taken to St. Joseph hospital in Bryan and then flown to Texas Children's Hospital. A spokeswoman for Bryan police, said he was stable.

Schaffner, a member of the U.S. Army, is stationed at Fort Hood but returns to Bryan on the weekends to see his pregnant wife and 5-year-old daughter.
