Buccaneers make 14 3-pointers in win

BRENHAM, Texas — The No. 24 Blinn College women’s basketball team (21-6, 12-5) downed Bossier Parish Community College, 93-52, on Wednesday night in the Kruse Center.

“This was a great team win where all 15 players got good minutes and competed extremely hard on the defensive end,” said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach.

The Buccaneers' offense was explosive, combining for 14 3-pointers in the win.

Five Buccaneers reached double-digit points as Hailey Atwood led the way with 16, Gabriela Bosquez followed with 15, Kristine Ezimako was next with 13, Mia Cherry scored 11, and Tanea Sims produced 10.

Blinn opened the match with a 20-11 lead in the first quarter and stayed on top 45-27 at the break. In the third quarter, the Buccaneers continued to outscore Bossier Parish to gain a 66-43 advantage. Blinn added another 27 points to the board, while holding Bossier Parish to nine points, for the 41-point victory.

Next, the Buccaneers will head on the road to compete against Jacksonville College on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m.

Blinn men’s basketball defeats Coastal Bend, 79-57

BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College men’s basketball team (18-9, 8-8) defeated Coastal Bend College, 79-57, on Wednesday night in the Kruse Center.

“I thought we did a very good job on the defensive end and were able to hold them to 21 points in the second half,” said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. “I also thought our players really shared the ball and played together tonight offensively.”

Azariah Seay led the Buccaneers with 15 points, Tristan Ikpe scored 14, AJ Rainey tallied 13, and Pedro Castro chipped in 10.

Blinn’s offense put up 46 points in the first half for the Buccaneers to lead by 10 points (46-36) moving into the second half. Blinn scored 33 points, while limiting Coastal Bend to 21 points, in the final half for the win.

Prior to the game, the Buccaneers honored head softball coach Rick Church for earning his 900th career win in 23 seasons as a head coach earlier this year.

Next, the Blinn men’s basketball team will travel to face off against Victoria College on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m.
