 Buccaneers drop games to Midland and No. 1 Chipola

Blinn softball totals 10 hits in doubleheader

YOUNGSVILLE, La. — The No. 11 Blinn College softball team (2-3) dropped two games on the final day of the Chipola Invitational on Saturday.

The Buccaneers lost to Midland College, 7-1, then No. 1 Chipola College, 8-1.

Midland 7 – Blinn 1

The Buccaneers and Lady Chaps tallied the same amount of hits in the game, but Midland was able to come out on top with a 7-1 victory.

Blinn totaled four hits as Marley Mahoney, Bailey Zibelin, Reagan Majewski and Clarissa Hagler each tallied one. In addition, Hagler scored Blinn’s only run of the game on an error.

Nevada Dolnik

Nevada Dolnik pitched a complete game for the Buccaneers, surrendering four hits and three earned runs, while striking out two in six innings. Blinn’s five errors helped Midland score four unearned runs.

Midland took a 3-0 lead after scoring one run in each of the first three innings. The Lady Chaps doubled their lead by scoring three runs in the fourth inning.

Blinn scored its lone run in the sixth inning when Hagler scored on an error.

Midland scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, then threw a scoreless seventh inning for the win.

Chipola 8 – Blinn 1

The Buccaneers concluded the tournament with a loss to Chipola, 8-1.

Samantha Rodriguez

Although the Buccaneers had six hits in the game, just one run was scored. Mackenzie Crews went 2-for-4 to lead the offense, while Italie Speziale, Jordyn Smith, Samantha Rodriguez and Mahoney each produced one hit.

Rodriguez scored Blinn’s only run on a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Renna Toomey threw a complete game, surrendering two earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out six.

The game remained scoreless until Chipola landed on the board with four runs in the third inning. The Lady Indians tacked on one run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, and scored their final run in the seventh inning for an 8-0 lead.

Next, the Buccaneers will host No. 13 Temple College in Blinn’s home opener on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Hohlt Park.
