BUCCANEERS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER FROM LAMAR-PORT ARTHUR

Buccaneers tally 23 runs and 13 hits in conference victory

PORT ARTHUR, Texas – Blinn College softball held the lead for 13 innings of a doubleheader against Lamar State College-Port Arthur as the Buccaneers swept the Seahawks by the scores of 10-4 and 13-7 on Friday afternoon.
The pair of wins improve Blinn’s record to 25-13 overall and 14-4 in Region XIV play.

Blinn 10 – Lamar-Port Arthur 4
Blinn used an explosive offense that tallied 16 hits in order to defeat Lamar State-Port Arthur, 10-4, in the first game of the doubleheader.
Chelsea Armendariz led Blinn’s offense after going 3-for-4, while driving in and scoring one run for the Buccaneers. Amy Alexander and Calli Birch each tallied two hits and drove in two runs in the win, while Alexander led Blinn with two runs scored.
Meghan Morris recorded her 14th win of the season after tossing all seven innings and surrendering four runs on eight hits, while striking out seven.
Lamar State-Port Arthur held a 1-0 lead in the opening inning until Blinn scored four runs in the second inning to take the lead for the remainder of the game. Armendariz kicked things off for Blinn’s offense with a solo home run to even the score, while Birch drove in Abby Olejniczak after each hit back-to-back singles. Birch and Sarah Cedillo each scored on an error for Blinn to take a 4-1 lead.
The Buccaneers extended their lead to 5-1 in the third inning after Olejniczak singled for Amber Langston to score.
The Seahawks added one run in the bottom of the third inning, but Blinn answered back immediately with one run in the fourth inning to take a 6-2 advantage after Langston singled for Tori Alvarez-Lopez to score.
Blinn and Lamar State-Port Arthur each added one run in the fifth inning. The Buccaneers scored after Birch singled to bring Alexander home.
In the sixth inning, Blinn added two runs with one swing of the bat as Alexander homered for Sydney Gutierrez to score also and the Buccaneers to lead 9-3.
The Seahawks scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth inning, while Blinn added its final run in the seventh inning after Morgan Gray scored off a single by Alvarez-Lopez for a 10-4 win.

Blinn 13 – Lamar-Port Arthur 7
Langston drove in five runs to help lead the Buccaneers to a 13-7 victory in order for Blinn to close out the doubleheader with a sweep.
Langston went 2-for-4 while driving in five runs with two doubles and a sacrifice fly to lead Blinn’s offense. Emily Noah followed after going 3-for-4 and driving in three runs, while scoring two. Leadoff hitter Olejniczak also had three hits and scored two runs in the victory.
Kamryn Boucher earned the win after starting in her first game this season and surrendering six runs on seven hits, while striking out two in four innings. Morris pitched the final three innings and only surrendered one run on two hits, while striking out two.
By the third inning, Blinn held a 10-0 lead after scoring one run in the first and second innings, and eight runs in the third. Langston drove in the first two runs with a double for Olejniczak to score and a sacrifice fly for Courtney Ogle to score. In the third inning, Noah singled to drive home Villarreal and Cedillo used a sacrifice fly for Alexander to score to kick off the inning. Langston followed by driving in three runs with a double for Noah, Armendariz and Olejniczak to all score and Gabriela Gomez delivered her first RBI of the day with a single for Langston to score. Alivia Villarreal capped off the inning with a two-run homer for Gomez to score.
The Seahawks tried to get back into the game by scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning and two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to close in on Blinn 10-6.
After two scoreless innings, Blinn’s offense jumped back into the game and scored two runs in the sixth inning after Noah hit a two-run shot over the fence for Alexander to also score.
The Seahawks scored their final run in the sixth inning and Blinn followed with a run in the seventh inning after Gutierrez hit a solo homerun for the Buccaneers to lead 13-7.
The Buccaneers will be back in action against Galveston College in a doubleheader on Friday, April 20 starting at 1 p.m. on the road.
