BUCS FALL TO WHARTON IN CONFERENCE ACTION, 2-0

Andrew Morgan gives the Buccaneers a solid start despite loss

WHARTON, Texas — Although Blinn College baseball and Wharton County Junior College each tallied five hits, Wharton was able to outscore the Buccaneers 2-0 on Thursday afternoon to open the conference series.

Blinn’s overall record falls to 19-11 and its Region XIV record drops to 11-5.

Earlier in the season, Blinn swept Wharton in a three-game series. Wharton managed to get revenge today by snapping the Buccaneers’ four-game win streak.

A solid start by Andrew Morgan wasn’t enough as Blinn was held without a run. Morgan only surrendered two runs on five hits, while striking out three in five innings.

Marshall Skinner led Blinn with two singles, while Alec Sanchez, Cameron Gibbons and Sammy Blair each produced one.

Wharton managed its only two runs in the third inning on a two-run double which was enough for the victory. In the bottom of the third, the Buccaneers attempted to answer back after Koby Collins and Reggie McCalister drew walks, and Blair laid down a bunt single. However, Wharton was able to get out of the inning as Blinn left the bases loaded.

The Buccaneers will continue the conference series against Wharton in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 7 starting at 3 p.m. at Leroy Dreyer Field. The day will feature the Adam’s Angels Ministry Fundraiser games and include a check presentation.

The Adam's Angels Ministry fundraiser game is where Blinn raises money and awareness for Adam's Angels. Adam's Angels Ministry jis called to provide care and comfort for families that are in a battle against childhood cancer. The fundraising effort is part of Blinn's annual Adopt-a-Charity program in which all Blinn athletic programs dedicate a portion of their gate proceeds towards a charity. The Buccaneers will finish the conference series against Wharton on Sunday, April 8 at 3 p.m. in Wharton. The second game of today’s doubleheader was postponed to Sunday due to the weather. Blinn and Wharton will resume the game, tied 4-4, in the bottom of the second inning.
