BUCS LOOK TO BUILD ON 2017 SUCCESS ON GRIDIRON

The Blinn Bucs are looking to build on the success they generated in the 2017 season.

Coach Ryan Mahon

Blinn was 6-4 last season, were part of a three-way tie for the regular season conference championship, and made their first bowl game appearance in six years (2011).  The 2018 edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine projects more success for the Buccaneers this season.

The biggest improvement last year was the Buccaneer defense which gave up nearly 7 points fewer per game.  A big part of that was the play of tackle Antwuan Jackson, All-American and TJCFC Most Valuable Player, who left after his only season at Blinn for Ohio State.

However, Coach Ryan Mahon and the Bucs return a number of defensive starters and have added a solid group of incoming freshmen—especially in the defensive backfield and at linebacker.

Offensively, the Bucs return 1000-yard rusher Carlos Grace.  Blocking for Grace will be a huge offensive line, buoyed by the addition of a strong freshman class.

DCTF’s projections for the 2018 SWJCFC season: 1-Northeastern Oklahoma; 2-Trinity Valley; 3-Blinn Buccaneers; 4-Navarro; 5-Kilgore; 6-Tyler; 7-Cisco; 8-New Mexico Military.

The Bucs open the season, Saturday, August 25th at Cubs Stadium against Texas A&T.  The Bucs open the conference schedule the following week (Sept. 1) at Tyler.

Select Buccaneer games can be heard live on KWHI and www.kwhi.com.
