BUCS SPLIT TWIN BILL

BUCCANEER WOMEN

Buccaneers break Bossier Parish’s defense behind 10 3-pointers

With the Bossier Parish Lady Cavaliers trying to limit the Blinn women’s basketball team’s chance inside, Blinn turned to its outside perimeter game and made Bossier Parish pay.

Behind 10 3-pointers on the night, including five from sophomore Tayler Weiks, the Buccaneers beat the Lady Cavaliers 78-53 in the teams’ Region XIV Conference opener Wednesday night in the Blinn P.E. Building.

“We shot the ball much better tonight from the perimeter,” Blinn (9-2, 1-0) coach Jeff Jenkins said.

That they did. Coming off a 3-for-25 performance Monday night against Hill College, Blinn nailed 10 threes to pull away. Against Bossier Parish’s zone defense, it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Weiks scored all 15 of her points off threes, and Shunta Nevitt hit two and Brianna Luton and Katrina Hayden each hit one.

Those 3-pointers allowed Blinn to build a substantial 44-19 lead in the first half.

Nevitt finished with eight points, Luton scored seven and Hayden scored six.

Sophomore Fatima Adams scored a team-high 27 points.

“It’s nice to win a big game,” Jenkins said. “We’ve got two big games this semester: tonight and Saturday vs. Kilgore. Hopefully we can take care of business Saturday and go into Christmas break on a good note.”

BUCCANEER MEN

Buccaneers fall to Bossier Parish, 71-70

Blinn can’t get last-second shot to fall in conference loss

The Blinn men’s basketball team had its chances late Wednesday night, but the ball never found the bucket.

The Buccaneers lost 71-70 to Bossier Parish Community College at the Blinn P.E. Building.

Down three with 26 seconds to play, Blinn had four chances to tie the game but couldn’t find the bucket until a tip-in at the buzzer that gave the Cavaliers the victory.

“We just didn’t finish the play,” Blinn (8-3, 0-2 Region XIV) coach Scott Schumacher said. “I thought we played really hard, we just had so many critical turnovers in the second half.”

After Blinn held a 38-30 lead at halftime, the Cavaliers opened the second half on a 13-3 run.

Sophomores Macari Brooks and Jourdan Stickler each scored 16 points for the Bucs, and Eddie Alcantara scored 13. Eric Ross scored 12 points.
