BURTON SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR FUTURE MEETINGS

A schedule change for future meetings highlighted an otherwise run-of-the-mill meeting for the Burton School Board Monday.

Starting next month, the board will meet every second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. To this point, the board had been meeting every third Monday at 6:30 p.m.

The board opted to make the change to help prevent scheduling conflicts with officials who attend both Burton and Brenham school board meetings, such as Washington County Chief Appraiser Willy Dilworth. The Brenham School Board meets every third Monday of the month at 6 p.m.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the board approved yearly student code of conduct changes, per recommendations from the Texas Association of School Boards. Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said there have not been any major changes to the code of conduct.

The board also:

  • Approved the Washington County Appraisal District to use $25,290 in reserve funds to purchase a new truck.
  • Approved the nomination of Joseph Antkowiak, Leslie Boehnemann, Jr., John Schaer, Charles Gaskamp, and Johanna Fatheree as candidates to serve on the Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors.
  • Approved Dr. Kennedy and Caitlyn Blakey to serve as representatives for the Lone Star Investment Pool.
  • Heard reports from the superintendent, elementary and high school principals, and the athletic director.

The board then adjourned into executive session to discuss district safety.
