BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO DISCUSS TAX RATE, BUDGET

The Burton School Board is set to host a public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate when they meet Monday night.

Trustees have indicated they will propose adopting the same tax rate of $1.17 per $100 valuation; $1.04 for operations and maintenance and 13 cents for debt service.

With an increase in property values throughout the county, taxes would increase slightly with the adoption of the previous tax rate.

The board will also considering a $4.9-million budget, which is up about $100,000 from the past year.

Superintendent Edna Kennedy says the budget increase is due to an increase in costs for some items, with no major expenditures planned.

The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the district administration offices, 701 N. Railroad St.
