BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO HEAR RECOMMENDATION FOR HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL POSITION

The Burton School Board could potentially hire a new high school principal at its meeting Monday.

Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy has stated she will be recommending a candidate for the position to the board at the meeting.  The school has not released the name of the candidate being considered.

The school district posted the position on October 23rd, following current principal Karen Steenken’s announcement that she would be retiring January 31, 2019.  Steenken presented her resignation letter to the district on October 2nd after 30 years in education, 16 of those in Burton.

At the board’s last meeting, Dr. Kennedy said there were five people interested in the position, with four submitting applications.  Two of the applicants are currently principals in Brenham and Anderson, the third is a teacher at Brenham High School, and the fourth is a previous Burton educator.

The board will look to vote on the presentation at Monday night’s meeting, set for 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Office on 701 North Railroad Street in Burton.
