BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO SWEAR IN NEW MEMBERS MONDAY

The Burton School Board is set to swear in its two newest members and one returning member and jump right into business at their meeting next Monday.  On the agenda for the meeting, the board will canvas the results of last Saturday’s election and administer the oath of office to the elected board members.  Joining the board for 3 year terms are David Warner Sr. and Tracey Cox.  Returning to the board to fill the final year of Ronnie Hohlt’s term will be Jeff Harmel.  The board will also elect officers after the new members are seated.

Board members will consider the purchase of three new school busses for the district.  Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy told the board during their April meeting that the district has applied for a grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for the three busses, but the grant will not be awarded until September.  She said they may need to purchase the busses before that time because the busses are needed regardless of whether the district receives the grant.

Also on the agenda, the board will consider a Low Attendance Waiver for February 7th of this year.  An Executive Session is listed on the agenda to discuss personnel after the public portion of the meeting.  The board is also scheduled to have a mandatory training session following the regular meeting at 6:30 PM.  The training is to fulfill the requirements mandated by the Texas Legislature.

The Burton School Board meeting is scheduled for Monday at 5:30 PM at the Administrative Offices on Railroad Street.
