CALDWELL ISD TO BRING BACK RESOURCE OFFICER

The Caldwell ISD is getting back its Student Resource Officer.

The Caldwell City Council, Burleson County Commissioners and Caldwell School Board have all approved payment for the officer for the three campuses in Caldwell.

Caldwell Superintendent Andrew Peter, says the resource officer's primary role will be student safety, and overseeing potential criminal matters on campus.

The Caldwell ISD dropped its Resource Officer several years ago after budget cuts.  The district will pay 75% of the officer's salary, while the county and city of Caldwell will pay the remainder.

Peter says the officer gives the district, “a sense of security," and that they, “don’t necessarily have a big crime problem, but want to have that comfort they have someone who knows law enforcement."

Another one of the new position's jobs will be to help with Caldwell school traffic issues during pickup and drop off times.

Peters says he hopes the hiring process will begin in January.

The resource officer will answer to the Burleson County Sheriff's Office.
