A 21-year old Caldwell man has pled guilty to capital murder charges in the death of a woman in Milam County.

Tanner Baker waived all rights to appeal and will have to serve at least 30 years of his 60-year sentence before he will be eligible for parole.

Baker admitted to taking part in the murder of 50-year old Sandy Phillips  during a home invasion in April of 2011 near San Gabriel in Milam County.

Phillips had been killed by two blasts to the chest from a .12-guage shotgun.

Police say Baker was arrested just hours after the attack at a Rockdale convenience store, driving Phillips’ stolen Mustang and with the murder weapon in the trunk.

Shortly after that, a second suspect Brandon Charles Cotton was arrested.

Cotton, the man who actually pulled the trigger in the attack, was sentenced to life without parole back in November.

District Attorney Bill Torrey says the victim’s family agreed to Baker’s plea deal.

The victim’s husband, Michael Phillips, a former Ithaca, New York police officer, was present for the plea and addressed Baker after sentencing.
