CECIL COOPER TO THROW OUT FIRST PITCH AT PICKARD HIGH NIGHT

The Brenham Cubs will honor baseball history tonight, when they host Pickard High night at Firemen’s Park.

Cecil Cooper (Milwaukee Brewers)

Prior to the first pitch between the Cubs (18-8/4-6) and Magnolia (14-8/6-4), the team will honor the history of Brenham’s old African-American high school.

Throwing out the first pitch will be one of Brenham’s most-famous alumni, Cecil Cooper.

Cooper was a five-time All-Star with the Milwaukee Brewers and also served as manager of the Houston Astros from 2007-09.

Cooper won two State Championships at Pickard High School before they merged with Brenham High School prior to Cooper’s senior season.

Cooper will be joined on the field by any former Pickard High School baseball alumni, welcomed to attend.

The game is also crucial to the Cubs’ bid for a playoff berth.  Brenham enters tonight’s game in sixth place District 19/5A—one game behind Waller (5-5) and two games behind Magnolia and College Station—with just four games left in the season.

The Cubs will travel to Magnolia, Thursday night—then close out the season next week with two games against Waller.

Tonight’s game can be heard on AM-1280 KWHI, FM 101.7 and www.kwhi.com, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:40.
