CITY COUNCIL MEETS TO APPROVE PURCHASE OF NEW POLICE VEHICLES

The Brenham City Council met Thursday (this) afternoon to approve the purchase of new vehicles for the City of Brenham Police Department from the BuyBoard Local Government Purchasing Cooperative. These vehicles were to include four patrol cars, and two unmarked vehicles. The marked vehicles will be purchased off the state contract for just over $93,000. The two unmarked vehicles were expected to run around $48,000

Also approved was authorization of Collier Construction, LLC for the Extension of Chappell Hill Street. This would include curb and gutter work on Chappell Hill St, still expected to cost in the neighborhood of $60,000.

Service Recognitions were given to the following: Keith Herring, Administration, 10 years, Ryian Marshall, Electric Dept, 15 years, and Haney Wilkerson, Gas Department, 20 years of service.

The Council also approved an Ordinance to place a stop sign on S. Day Street at its intersection with Charles Lewis Street.

The council also heard and approved the yearly update to the Tax Phase-In Compliance Review Committee. The committee annually reviews the current tax phase-in recipients to insure the criteria are being met.

Also, there was a presentation of the Fourth Quarter Report by the Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Visitors for July, one of the busiest time, was down from 921 visitors to 701.

In the Work Session of the Council, changes to the City Charter were discussed, including how to get the information out to the public for the May 9, 2015 election. The City Charter has not been changed in 20 years, and changes were needed to correct things such as grammar and punctuation, having some of the Charter items comply with State and Federal Law. There will be 23 propositions on the May ballot.

The Council also called an Emergency Meeting at 3:10pm to discuss the Emergency Repairs to Gun and Rod Road and Associated Facilities as a result of the recent rains, which caused damage to culverts in Ralston Creek. These repairs are currently being bid on, and the Council hopes to start on the repairs in the next week or two. The repairs are expect to cost in the neighborhood of $80,000.
