CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER RESOLUTION OPPOSING TREATMENT FACILITY

The Brenham City Council appears to be ready to issue a resolution opposing the Bluebonnet Haven Residential Facility at their meeting Thursday.  On the agenda for the meeting is discussion and possible action on resolution opposing the center.  Bluebonnet Haven is currently under construction on Highway 36 South of Brenham and could begin housing troubled teens in the fall of this year.  The County Commissioners will be considering their own resolution opposing the facility at their meeting this (Tuesday) morning.

Council members will also consider awarding a bid for repairs to Higgins Branch in Henderson Park.  The embankments along Higgins Branch were destroyed in the May 2016 flooding.  They will also consider making the final payments for the repairs to the Higgins Branch crossing at Jefferson Street and the storm damage repairs on Barbee Street.

Councilmembers will also consider an ordinance prohibiting U-Turns at certain crossings on Highway 290 at the Highway 36 North Crossover.  They will also consider awarding a bid for the parking lot improvements for the All Sports Building at Hohlt Park.

Brenham City Council meets Thursday at 1:00 PM on the second floor of City Hall.

  1. If council decides to prohibit Uturns in that area, they need to include the intersection of West Main, Dixie Road and S. Dixie st. There are numerous Uturns made there also. The east bound 290 traffic entering West Main does so at a very high rate of speed. There is a busy daycare on the corner of the West Main and S.Dixie and it is not a question of if, but when a major traffic accident will occur. And they’re will soon be a retail establishment built on the opposite west corner to add to this growing problem. Please council, do your jobs.
