CITY MOVES CLOSER TO RENTING OUT AIRPORT FBO BUILDING

The City of Brenham is one step closer to renting out the old Southern Flyer FBO building at the Brenham Airport.  Assistant City Manager Donald Reese told the Airport Advisory Board at their meeting Tuesday evening, that Aviators Plus and the city have come to an agreement on the lease.  The new lease is expected to go before the City Council February 4th for their approval.  Reese stated that although the lease requires that the restaurant at the airport be re-opened after a certain number of days, he expected that some remodeling to the facility will be needed, and he did not know what type of restaurant it will be.

The Airport Advisory Board welcomed 2 new members Tuesday. Grant Meschewitz and Josiah Jameson will be joining the board, which has been reduced from 9 to 7 members, with Brent Nedbalek, the FBO owner, as an ex-officio member.  The board voted to keep their leadership the same for the upcoming year, with Jon Hodde serving as Chairman and Mark Whitehead as Vice-Chairman.

The board approved moving forward with a ground lease for two large hangers on the south end of the field.  Brent Nedbalek and Aviators Plus had requested the construction, and the FAA has approved it.  The board also discussed a request from Aviators Plus to charge a service fee to larger aircraft who don’t make a fuel purchase.  The suggested fee is between $50 and $150, and would be collected by and at the discretion of the FBO.  The board tabled the matter until the city refines the language to specify what services would be covered by the fee.
