CITY OF BELLVILLE CONSIDERING CONTRACTING OUT GARBAGE SERVICE

The Bellville City Council is considering contracting its garbage service to an outside company, and four companies have expressed an interested in contracting with the city.

The city stresses that there would be no jobs lost, with several of the employees transferred to the Recycling Center, and that they would continue to pay for the service the way they do now.

City Administrator Shawn Jackson also noted that the rates would stay the same, or only increase slightly, and that there would be an estimated $158,000 in saving in tipping fees, along with fuel and maintenance savings.

Bellville May Joe Ed Lynn pointed out that the cost savings and whether to contract out the garbage service would be discussed at a later date.

The city would also consider how they can cut cost without going to an outside company, such as going to a one day per week pick-up instead.

The council will now wait for bids for the service before making a decision.
