COLORADO COUNTY LOOKING AT GROUND WATER STORAGE PLAN

The Colorado County Ground Water District is looking at the possibility of a plan to store water from the Colorado River in a shallow acquifer west of the river where gravel is being quarried.

Jim Brasher, the general manager of the water district, said there has been some initial interest in exploring the plan by officials with the Lower Colorado River Authority.

Details of a possible study still have to be worked out, including the costs.

A rough estimate of the amount of water that could be stored is 10,000 to 20,000 acre feet annually.
