COMMISSIONERS APPROVE CONTRACT FOR NEW SEWER SYSTEM

A contract between Washington County and Schultz and Son’s Construction Co for a new sanitary sewer system was approved by the Washington County Commissioners at their regular meeting Tuesday morning.

The improvements to the property at Alois and Shedd Lane were established under the 2013 Texas Department of Agriculture Community Development Block Grant, and ratified an award made by the Washington County Commissioners Court on February 3, 2015, and work is expected to begin in March, after a preconstruction meeting on March 5th.

Also approved was a contract between Blinn College and Washington County for the General Election on May 9th.  Washington County takes care of all the voting, except for the Burton elections. The County coordinates ballots, and receives 10% back for supplies, which is shared back with the entities involved in the elections.

The Commissioners also approved the extension of a contract between the County and Citizen’s State Bank for an additional two years, with the contract ending on April 30, 2017. The Commissioners thanked the representatives of Citizens State Bank for extending the contract, with the bank waiving all fees for the account.

The representatives of the Bank noted that there were more than willing to bid for the County’s business, noting that the current contract allows for contract extension, and the County chose to stay with Citizens State Bank for the duration of the contract.

There was also a presentation by the Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau highlighting October-Decembers of 2014. The number of “unique visitors” was down slightly, but was expected to increase in the coming spring months.

The meeting ended with an approval of Accounts Payable and approval of the pending Fairgrounds Management Rental and Regulations Con
