CONCEALED / OPEN CARRY TOPIC OF SAFETYTALK PROGRAM

Recent years have seen a drastic increase in the number of people seeking a license to carry—especially now with the enactment of the Open Carry Law.

The latest Department of Public Safety Statistics show over 825,000 licensed to carry holders in Texas and more have applied for licenses.

Vicki Hanak, a local licensed handgun instructor, appeared this (Thursday) morning on Safety Talk with DPS Corporal Jimmy Morgan, and says the License to Carry class is not for inexperienced shooters.

Applicants should already know how to shoot before taking the CHL class…

Hanak also said that the punishment for those who carry in a prohibited place has changed as well…

The exception to that change is anyone who fails to leave after given a citation.

According to Hanak, if that person refuses to leave, the court can enhance the charge to a Class-A misdemeanor.

Today’s (Thursday’s) entire edition of Safety Talk can be heard here.
