COUNCIL EXPECTED TO APPROVE LIBRARY STRATEGIC PLAN

The Brenham City Council is expected to adopt a resolution in support of the long-range Strategic Plan for the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library when they meet Thursday afternoon.

Back on June 16th the council got its first look at the ten-year plan, which—among other things:  supports educational and learning opportunities; fosters community connections; creates awareness of library resources; supports workforce and economic prosperity; expands access to information; and fosters an organizational culture of innovation.

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission requires approval of the plan in order to achieve library services accreditation.

City staff is recommending approval of the resolution.

Also at Thursday’s meeting, the council is expected to approve Gunda Corporation LLC of Magnolia for engineering services for culvert replacement on Burleson Street.

A tributary crossing was washed out on Burleson St. in the April storms.  Repairs were near completion when the May storms struck washing out most of the repairs.  The city is looking to construct a more reliable crossing that could withstand future severe storms.

The council is also expected to accept at $35,000 grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for the expansion of the skateboard park at Firemen’s Park.  Back in June, the Brenham Community Development Corporation approved $35,000 in matching funds for the project.

The council will also hold a public hearing and then vote on possible approval of a variance for a business in the 1000 block of East Blue Bell Road to openly display merchandise.

The city council is set to meet Thursday afternoon at 1:00 in city council chambers at Brenham City Hall on West Vulcan Street.
