COUNTY LOOKING TO PURCHASE LAND FOR ROAD AND BRIDGE
The County is looking to purchase property to relocate the Road and Bridge Department away from the heavily trafficked Blue Bell Road. On the agenda for next Tuesday’s County Commissioners meeting is an item to authorize purchase of a 21 acre tract of land. County Judge John Brieden confirmed that this is the proposed site for relocating the Road and Bridge Department. He declined to say exactly where the property is located until the purchase is completed.
Currently, the Road and Bridge Department is located next to the Sheriff’s Office and the County Jail on Blue Bell Road. The large trucks used by Road and Bridge have difficulty entering and exiting the site with the increased traffic on that loop road. That is one of the reasons why the County would like to relocate that department. County Judge John Brieden explains another reason:
The new justice center would be built on the current Road and Bridge site, but Brieden stated that this is a long term project that will take place in stages over a number of years. Tuesday’s County Commissioners meeting is at 9am in the County Courthouse.

Why don’t we get rid of the ems and let a private run company come in and do this instead of the county continuing to purchase all these expensive ambulances . We never hear if the ems is making a profit or a loss. We have all the pickups and Tahoes running around and speeding with nowhere to go. They do a good job but they really need to look at privatization
Concerned taxpayer got it right! The road and bridge is great where it is located. Because of heavy traffic??? Get creative, and work out the problems, stop spending our money. The Brenham P.D. has the Taj Majal, EMS has the country club, now our misguided justice employees want their own over the top structure. Our courts backlogs are not nearly as backed up as Brazos County, and they don’t have a new justice center. These are service entities, period. Build them to look that way. And commissioners, taxpayer is right in saying watch out, that cushy salary is short lived. Don’t think we are not listening, we are. Voters are smart enough to STOP voting straight tickets and vote for the person, not the party.
The current location of the road and bridge dept. is a perfect location, with access to all major roads and hi ways in the county. The only real traffic is at school traffic times and this only happens twice a day ,9 months a year for 45 minutes to an hour at a time, I see no problem. If a justice center is needed it could be an addition to the current county S. O. and jail,an aerial view on Google Maps shows there is plenty of land there. In the news several weeks or months ago it was stated that the combined debt of all government entities in Washington Co. was $146 million, why does our county judge and commissioners court feel there is a need to add to this? The taxpayers of the county are being bled to death now with a hefty increase in taxes over last year just for the county portion of my tax statement, when will it end ? We elected these people to look out for our best interest. Are they? . VOTE!!
I agree totally. Do we really need to buy more land? I don’t think so.
