CUBETTES BEAT HUNTSVILLE–BUT ARE ELIMINATED FROM POSTSEASON

The Brenham Cubettes needed a win over Huntsville and help from Willis, Tuesday night to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.

The Cubettes held up their end, holding on to defeat the Lady Hornets, 8-6.

However, Magnolia knocked off the first place Lady Kats, 4-2 to clinch the final playoff berth in 20/5A, eliminating the Cubettes from post-season contention.

The Cubettes (15-13/6-7) took an early 2-0 lead, when Kramer Eschete, who’d singled, scored on a three-base error; then McGee Eschete scored on a suicide squeeze by Caroline Schroeder.

Huntsville (4-23/1-12) knotted up the game on rbi-singles by Kenley Strange and Makayla Rogers.

Fielding miscues by the Hornets led to three unearned runs for the Cubettes in the third, highlighted by an rbi-double by Schroeder.

Brenham upped the lead to 8-2 with three more runs in the fourth.  Kramer Eschete drove in a run with a single.  Kat Marshall then drove home a run with a double.

Huntsville, however, would not go away, Strange ripped a homerun in the sixth.

Rogers cut the lead to two runs with a two-run blast in the seventh.  But Amanda Little got the last two outs with the tying run on base to seal the win.

It was the final home game for two Cubettes’ seniors: Amanda Almaraz and Kay Kulow.  The remainder of the team is expected to return in 2019.

The Cubettes will close out the season Friday night, when they travel to Magnolia for a 7:00 p.m. game.
