CUBETTES TO FACE WILLIS FOR VB PLAYOFF SPOT

The Brenham Cubettes’ volleyball playoff ticket has yet to be punched, after Willis defeated Waller, 3-0, Tuesday night.

The Willis win tied the Lady Kats with Brenham for the fourth and final playoff berth in District 18/4A.

Both teams finished with identical 10-6 district marks, meaning a district playoff game will determine the final post-season participant.

The two will square off for the third time this year, Friday night at 5:30 at Magnolia West High School.

During the regular season, each team won on the other’s home floor.

The winner of Friday’s game will advance to the Bi-District playoffs to face 17/4A Champion, Georgetown, Tuesday night in Bryan.

Tuesday night, the Cubettes (20-19) fell to state-ranked A&M Consolidated, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-17).  Willis swept winless Waller, 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-14).

Meanwhile, in other district action, Montgomery swept Magnolia West and Magnolia defeated Huntsville in five sets.

That gave Montgomery the District Championship outright with a 13-2 record.  Magnolia and Huntsville finished tied for second at 12-3.

Magnolia won a coin-flip to claim the #2 playoff berth from 18/4A, while Huntsville fills the #3 slot.
