Brenham (15-5-5) controlled the flow of the game throughout the night, keeping the ball in the Fightin’ Maidens end for most of the game.

The Cubettes broke a 0-0 tie in the 16th minute as Au’Dresha Spates took control of the ball just shy of midfield, split the defense and raced downfield for a one-on-one with the Jacksonville goalkeeper.  Spates ripped the shot past the keeper and the Cubettes held the early 1-0 lead.

Eleven minutes later, Spates would score again.  This time she took pass from Marina Najera at the top of the box, spun and then fired it into the back of the net.

It took less than two minutes for the Cubettes to up their lead to 3-0, when Ana Brans fed a pass to Angel Darcus.  Darcus caught the keeper out of position and fired the ball into the open goal.

In the second half the Cubettes continued to play aggressively and kept Jacksonville from mounting any serious threat.

Cubette keeper Cassie Musser stopped what few shots the Maidens were able to get off, picking up the shutout.

The Cubettes advance to the Area Playoffs, where they will face Waco University—a 4-0 winner over Salado, Tuesday night.

The site and date have not yet been set for the second-round match up.

In the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader, the Cubs saw their season come to an end, 5-0 at the hands of Jacksonville.

Pedro Mireless the Indians on the board less than 10 minutes into the game.

A big blow to the Cubs came with time running out in the first half and the Cubs appearing to head to the locker room down 1-0.  But Levi Santana ripped a shot past Cub goal keeper Wenses Rubio with just 30 seconds left for a 2-0 Jacksonville lead at the intermission.

The Cubs tried to step up their aggressiveness in the second half, but the Indians’ advantage in athleticism kept the Cubs at bay.

Alberto Escareno’s goal put Jacksonville up 3-0, less than ten minutes into the half.  Then three minutes later, the Indians put any hopes for a Cubs’ comeback to rest with Mireless’ second goal of the game.

The Cubs enede the season—their first under head coach Hector Guzman—at 11-12-1.
