CUBS HONOR HISTORY–THEN BEAT MAGNOLIA, 12-2

The Brenham Cubs honored baseball history Tuesday night, then went out and run-ruled Magnolia, 12-2.

Prior to the game, the team celebrated Pickard High School night.  Alumni from the old African-American high school in Brenham took the field and were recognized by the crowd.  Then, one of Pickard’s and Brenham High School’s most prestigious alumni, Cecil Cooper threw out the first pitch.

It was the Bulldogs (6-5) who took the early 2-0 lead, but the Cubs rallied for three runs in the third to claim the lead for good, 4-2.  The Cubs (19-8/5-6) went on to score two more it the fourth and three runs in fifth and sixth to roll to the run-rule win.

Evan Aschenbeck went the distance to pick up the win, striking out seven.

A trio of Cubs had three hits each: Garrison Weiss, Jake Olson and Carson Draehn.  Braden McCain had the big shot of the night, a solo home run.  The home run came in the Buccaneer Food Store Home Run Inning, making a $310 gasoline winner of Lonnie Myers.

  1. You could honor them more by displaying their championship record at Fireman’s park. I was so disappointed to see only the Cubs records recorded on the board. This is a City of Brenham Park for all citizens.
