CUBS TO BEGIN 2019 BASEBALL SEASON AT HOME

The Brenham Cubs open the 2019 baseball season, Monday night at historic Firemen’s Park.

The Cubs will host Elgin to kick off the new campaign.

Brenham enters the season with a host of returnees from last season (20-12/9-5 District).

Leading the returnees will be 2018 starters: SS, Jake Olson; OF/IF, Carson Draehn; OF, Landon Harris; C/DH Ethan Weatherby; and OF/P, Evan Aschenbeck.

Also returning will be: IF/OF, Garrison Weiss; P/OF, Evan Schroeder; C/1B, Braden McCain; P/OF, Seth Diggs/ and P/OF Evan Schroeder.

The Cubs will also feature a number of newcomers vying for playing time: Hayden Allen; Clayton Schwartz; Travis Vendrell; Ben Bosse; Jackson Corn; Jackson Mueller; Keagan Eason and Hayden Schroeder.  Alldyn Schroeder is still rehabilitating from a serious leg injury suffered during the 2018 football season.

The Cubs are under the leadership of Head Coach Lanny Williams, who is entering his sixth season at the helm of the Cubs’ program (137-69).  He will once again be assisted by coaches Trey Marek and Brian Harris.

Following the Elgin game, tonight, the Cubs will make their annual trip to the Round Rock Hardball Classic, with games Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The following weekends, the Cubs will host the Brenham/Montgomery Tourney and the Brenham Alumni Tournament, respectively.

The Cubs find themselves in a relatively new district in 2019, with 19/5A opponents: A&M Consolidated, College Station, Katy Paetow, Magnolia, Magnolia West, Rudder and Waller.  In 2018, six of the eight team qualified for the post-season.

Tonight’s season opener is set for 7:00 at Firemen’s Park.  The game can be heard on KWHI AM-1280, FM 101.7 and www.kwhi.com beginning at 6:40.  The Sports Doc Ed Pothul , entering his 30th season of Cubs’ play-by-play, and Tommy Lange.
