DCTF EXPECTS BIG THINGS FROM PANTHERS IN 2018

The Burton Panthers are expected to continue their run of football success in 2018, as Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine has the Panthers ranked #4 in their Pre-Season 2A Division II State Poll.

The Panthers are coming off another outstanding season, which saw the Panthers go 13-2, and advance to the State Semi-Finals.

Coach Jason Hodde returns seven starters from last year’s team, including four-year starters, Caleb Harmel and De’Monderick Winters.

Also back for the Panthers’ high-powered offense, which scored 702 points last season, are: wide receivers Tristan Brantley and Cash Callahan, running back Damarcus Wilson, tight end Chase Mathis, and offensive linemen Cade Weiss, Caleb Fuchs and Jake Chandler.  Burton averaged 47 points per game last year.

The same players lead the Panthers’ defense which looks to improve on the 20 points per game they yielded in 2017.

The projections for the 2018 District 14/2A DII race: 1-Burton Panthers; 2-Flatonia; 3-Snook; 4-Louise; 5-Somerville.

The Panthers open the 2018 season, Friday night, August 31st when they to Lexington for a 7:30 kickoff.  The home opener is Friday, September 21st when they host Weimar at Panther Field.
