DEADLINE APPROACHES TO FILE FOR ELECTIONS: ONLY ONE CONTESTED RACE IN BRENHAM SO FAR

One day remains to file for May’s city and school elections, and so far, there is only one contested race.

For the Brenham City Council, two candidates have filed for the position of mayor: incumbent Milton Tate, and former mayor and Washington County Judge Dorothy Morgan.

Albert Wright has filed for a full four-year term to the council’s Ward Two seat, after his appointment last year. Ward Four incumbent Danny Goss has filed for re-election.

On the Brenham School Board, four incumbents have filed for re-election: Mark Schneider for Position One, Michael Altman for Position Two, Susan Jenkins for Position Three, and Kelvin Raven for Position Four. No other candidates have filed.

Meanwhile, for the Burton School Board, only Demetrius Colvin has signed up for re-election to his position of board president. No one has filed for the seats currently held by board Vice President Jeff Harmel and Ande Bostain.  All of the school board seats are at-large.

On the Burton City Council, only the three incumbents have filed for re-election: Mayor David Zajicek, Nathan Kalkhake for Position One, and Jerry Merten for Position Four.

On the Blinn Board of Trustees, three seats have drawn a candidate. Board President Charles Moser has filed for re-election to Position One, Jim Kolkhorst for Position Two and Dennis Crowson for Position Three.  Last month, incumbents Atwood Kenjura and David Sommer each announced they would not run for re-election to Positions Two and Three, respectively.

The filing deadline is 5 p.m. tomorrow (Friday). Any election that does not have a contested race is cancelled.  Early voting begins April 22nd, and Election Day is May 4th.
