DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE TO INVESTIGATE LISTERIA ISSUES AT BLUE BELL

The Department of Justice has launched an investigation into Blue Bell Creameries after their ice cream was linked to a deadly listeria outbreak earlier this year.

An FDA investigation found listeria in all three of Blue Bell's production plants following the outbreak and records indicate the company knew one plant was contaminated at least as early as 2013.

According to CBS television, several Blue Bell employees report less than sanitary conditions on the factory floor

In April, Blue Bell shut down three production facilities and recalled all ice cream. Production has since resumed, and all of the ice cream should be back on the shelves in fifteen states.

  1. Can the Dept of (In)Justice be found to have filed a FRIVILOUS LAWSUIT, by a court or is that just reserved for the plebes?

  2. Some companies receive notification of listeria contamination and comply immediately with all of the remedies that the authorities issue, and some go over and beyond. The judicial department is requesting a further examination into companies which may not have responded with full and immediate measures to protect the public. It is not a witch hunt, it is a public protection agency doing their job. With any service that involves the publics participation as a consumer, proof of neglect resulting in harm must be met with severe penalties. If not, we would see far more of these same issues. Unfortunately, this one is close to home for many.

    1. It’s been reported though the finding in 2013 the factory immediately cleaned it with the FDA’s own guidelines. If I recall correctly, the 2013 finding was a non-food source too.

And just in the past month and half there was a listeria outbreak in soft cheese that sickened 25+ and killed one but that story disappeared quickly in favor of reporting on BB.

The truth is listeria is EVERYWHERE. The companies could’ve done everything perfect and it still have an outbreak – it can survive pasteurization. We probably eat the bug every day because it’s around us.

I like others though question why such a heavy focus on BB when there have been several others who also had as bad if not worse outbreaks in terms of illness but they get kid gloves.

  3. Are they also going to investigate Jeni’s Splended Ice Cream (which had a second outbreak after resuming production), the soft cheese group that had a recent outbreak that sickened more people, Chipotle with their massive e-coli outbreak?

Or the other EIGHT outbreaks in the past five years for listeria, only one of which – cantaloupe – went to court? (Of note – the CDC’s site shows a few other outbreaks sickened more than BB).

Look, I know BB did wrong and paying dearly for it. That said, with other outbreaks being reported but summarily dismissed or ignored in favor of continuing to focus on BB, one has to wonder if there’s more to story.

    1. Of course they won’t investigate the others. One, they’re not from Texas, and we all know the White House has it out for Texas. Two, I’d be willing to bet they align with the current Administration’s politics. People can say this isn’t political all they want, but if you look at it objectively and read between the lines, what is the reason that Blue Bell is under so much scrutiny and the others aren’t? Politics, and the fact that Blue Bell has more money than the other companies, therefore the government can levy larger fines.

      1. Blue Bell also is reported to give largely to Republican PACs (can be searched as more than $200) so yeah I too feel politics involved. (Of note they also have donated to Democrats and others as well).

There are other factors I’ve seen, such as media (outside county) leaving out information and such, it further makes me feel the same thing as you.

And liberal media (not county) honestly has been stunned seeing how BB returned as strong as it has. Says enough when they actively go out for the negative stories and gloss over (best) ones such as BB’s announcement it was test running in Brenham.

  4. How do you spell Federal Government HARASSMENT of private business?

After this round is completed comes the IRS Audit, highly publicized by the alphabet media ??
