DISTRICT ATTORNEY JULIE RENKEN RELEASES REPORT ON BURLESON COUNTY DEPUTY MURDER

District Attorney Julie Renken has released a full report on the murder of a Burleson County Sheriff’s Investigator last month.

She reported Tuesday that a warrant was issued for the rural Burleson County residence of  Henry Goedrich Magee, from Somerville, on December 13th.  Burleson County sheriff’s investigators found 12 to 15 marijuana plants growing inside Magee’s home near Somerville.

An informant told law enforcement officers that Magee was a ‘known dealer’ who had grown drugs in his home and that he ‘supplies numerous people around the Snook area with marijuana.’  The informant also claimed he saw rifles, along with a handgun had ‘Washington County Sheriff’s Office’ etched on top.’  This weapon may have been stolen from a home burglary.

Deputy Adam Sowders filed for a search warrant, and requested to enter Magee’s home without knocking or announcing law enforcement presence.

Sowders said he thought giving Magee notice would be ‘dangerous, futile, or would inhibit the effective investigation.’

The warrant was signed by District Court Judge Reva Towslee-Corbett and just before six in the morning on December 19th, the raid was conducted.

Magee allegedly began firing as the raid began and Sowders was fatally injured.

Magee’s defense attorney Dick DeGuerin , has said Magee fired shots in an effort to defend himself and his pregnant girlfriend.

Magee remains in the Washington County Jail under a million dollar bond,, charged with capital murder.
